The 5 most important trends in online marketing 24/08/2010

Trends in online marketing

For marketers it's important of course to be aware and be part of the latest trends in marketing. Software company Unica questioned 155 American marketers about the most important developments for the upcoming year. We selected for you 5 outstanding trends for 2010.

1. More budget goes to online marketing
A growing part of the entire marketing budget will be spend on online marketing. The main reason is that response to online actions is easier to measure, making it easier to decide if a campaign is cost-efficient or not. Some find e-marketing cheaper, but that isn't always the case.

2. Email marketing on its way up
This year 92% of the marketers will use email marketing. Because of the rigid opt-in regulations in Europe, this number can't just be extrapolated to our region, but fact is that even here demand for email marketing is increasing. Spamming or 'a shower of shot and hope for success' is out of the question today. Success depends on excellent address databases and relevant content.

3. Bing: newcomer in SEO
The time that SEO almost exclusively was associated with Google is history. Certainly in the US Microsoft's search engine Bing gains popularity. Europe will follow without a doubt. Optimizing websites for search engines therefore will become a more complex part of online marketing.

4. More customized information
Half of the questioned marketers is already working on it, in 2010 that'll be 75%: targeting and personalisation. And then we don't only mean providing commercial information adapted to the interests of customers (like keyword linked Adwords), but also based on geo-location.

5. Integration of new channels in existing strategies
The social media hype isn't over yet and hasn't even reached a peak. At the same time strong growth is expected in mobile marketing. With web 3.0 gleaming at the horizon this is a logical step. More attention will be going to the integration of these new channels in the traditional marketing channels and strategies. Anyway, with Comith's 4x4 model you are ready for the future!
